A passionate and artful performer, Greg Milliren has captivated audiences with his expansive, silvery tone and engaging, soulful interpretations. He enjoys frequent contemporary and traditional chamber music collaborations with talented colleagues, including performances with the Nucleus Ensemble, of which he is a member, the Tonoi Ensemble, and many others. Greg has won prizes in the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition and Orchestral Audition / Masterclass Competition. Also successful as an orchestral musician, Greg has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the New World Symphony in Miami, the National Orchestral Institute, and the Las Vegas Music Festival Orchestra. He has held positions with the YMF Debut Orchestra and is principal flutist with Southern California's professional training orchestra, The American Youth Symphony.
Greg also maintains a studio of private flute students in the West Los Angeles area, teaching in Manhattan Beach, Westchester, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Marina Del Rey, Culver City, and surrounding areas. His teaching reflects his belief in the power of music to enrich people's lives in transformative ways, and he seeks to bring that passion to the discipline of learning a musical instrument. He continues to have great pride in the progess and accomplishments of his students.
Greg's mentors and teachers include James Walker, Adam Kuenzel, Julia Bogorad-Kogan, Immanuel Davis and Jeannie Foster. He completed his Masters of Music degree at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music and his Bachelors of Music degree at the University of Minnesota. Greg was born and raised near Milwaukee, and spent three years as Box Office Manager with the Minnesota Orchestra before finding his true passion in teaching and performing. He credits his early piano and flute teachers Sue McTaggart and Katie Warrichaiet, and high school band director Jim Krofta, and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony with providing him the inspiration and guidance to enjoy a rewarding career in music.
